Varieties of Labial reduction surgery
Although you might be familiar with the name, you might not know what it means or which body part is involved. Labiaplasty and labia minora reduction are other names for labial reduction. The little folds of thin, sensitive skin that are located on either side of the real vaginal introitus are known as the labia minora. Labiaplasty is a type of plastic surgery that modifies the labia majora and/or labia minora (inner lips) (outer lips). Girls under the age of 18 shouldn’t have it done because the labia continue to develop through early adulthood after puberty.
Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad word that encompasses a wide range of options in this rapidly growing field of elective healthcare. Although sedation and local anesthesia are sometimes utilized, general anesthesia is usually required for this surgery.
There are various types of labial reduction surgery depending on the situation. Anatomy, patient goals, and patient preferences should all be considered when selecting a technique. As a result, in this post, you can examine the many approaches described below to choose which one is ideal for you.
1. Trim (linear) technique:
Trim technique is used to lighten dark labia and minimize the size of the inner labia. It also enhances labial symmetry. The method becomes well known and comparatively risk-free as a result. The trim is also referred to as an amputation labiaplasty, edge excision, and linear. Patients who dislike their thick, darkly pigmented, or rough edges may benefit from the trim technique. A few benefits are as follows:
Benefit: By removing skin from the outermost, typically darkest part of the labia, the technique leaves the inner, lighter labia.
2. De-Epithelialization technique:
The epithelial layer was removed from the central portion of the inner aspects of each lobe of each genitalia, leaving the subcutaneous tissue largely intact. The procedure had few complications, which were comparable to those of more complicated procedures. Less than 5% of patients experienced wound dehiscence. A few benefits are as follows:
Benefit: De-epithelialization produces smaller labia with their natural outer edges still present. Inside the labia, there are scars.
3. Wedge technique:
The wedge method is a more recent labiaplasty technique that is becoming more well-liked due to its results that look natural. A V-shaped “wedge” is cut out of both sides of the labia during this procedure, and the remaining edges are then stitched together. With the wedge approach, there is only a short transverse line instead of a longitudinal vertical line.
Benefit: This method preserves the typical labial architecture, shape, and color. The new lines are almost undetectable.
4. Z-Plasty-
Z-plasty is another variation that uses a Z-shaped cut to further limit the incidence of postoperative tightening or scarring. Moreover, it is helpful to relieve the stress on the stitch line. The Z-plastic procedure is utilized as a variation of the V-wedge incision, to enable an additional excised region adjacent to the V-wedge.
5. Sculpted linear—
Generally speaking, this method works best to remove extra tissue on either side of the labia minora. Usually, a straight line incision (or, if an arc shape, a curvilinear incision) is made with a laser, pair of scissors, incising needle, or radio frequency along the hypertrophic outer edge of the labia minora It is the procedure performed most often by surgeons conducting labiaplasty minora.
